Check your feeds!

So, the main page of my site has been running really slow for the past few days and I kept thinking it was because of a syndicated feed I was pulling in — perhaps the feed provider was having problems.. Well, that wasn’t the problem. Apparently you should always check your feeds when issues arise! The slow-down was due to FeedBurner trying to parse my beautiful site’s invalid XML feed. Relaunch.

First off, this post has taken me about four days to write. Not only am I overloaded with projects right now, but having a newborn son doesn't leave much time left over. That said, let me begin this entry by explaining what I mean by "relaunch". I've realized that over the past few years in which I've had this site, it has mainly been used as an outlet for [what I call] noteworthy items — or items that I found entertaining, humorous, informative or ridiculous. Unfortunately (until recently), these noteworthy entries haven't been very consistent or compelling and usually consisted of a clip or quote from another blog, or a link to a website (or link trolling), along with a short quip of my own added to it — nothing that captures attention, compels readers to comment or even attracted readers to return. I've heard this practice referred to as "me too" mode.

Wordpress Plugin: wp-linklog

It's called "Linklog" and it's my first experiment with PHP, and more it's my first experiment with WordPress, the best blog system ever [now that I've found it]. By adding a new page with a single line of code, you've got an entirely new page within your WordPress blog site which follows your existing theme layout and showcases all of your active WordPress links by category including description and special built-in management controls next to each link.

I am Jeremy Helms, 29 year old graphic designer, web designer, site architect, programmer, copywriter and ambitious entrepreneur. I was born and live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. This site is my personal periodical for design, code, business and other topics.
