I’m a DAD!

February 6, 2007 at 6:17 pm

I can honestly say that the experience of seeing your own child take a breath of air for the first time and make the most innocent cry you will ever hear is probably the most amazing thing in the world. I didn't think I would be that sappy father you never want to hear about, but [seriously] it was hard not to shed a tear or two looking into the eyes of your newborn child and seeing the immediate bonding between the child and mother.

Anyway, on with the show...

  • 15 hours of labor; began at 3:00 AM
  • First breath was at 6:17 PM on Feb 06, 2007
  • 8lbs 13oz (3 oz short of 9lbs!)
  • 21" long
  • Born without forceps or vacuum
  • Wondering about what we named him?

Congratulations J! And welcome to a wonderful learning experience. Your son will teach you as much as you will teach him. :)

BTW...Did you settle on a name? What is his name?

We've decided to name him after a very well respected, very talented, extremely rich and stunningly handsome guy I know — so he will be named Jeremy Michael Helms, Jr.

Ok, so I may not be so much on the extremely rich side, but three out of four ain't bad... :)

I think we're going to call him Junior for short.

Btw, our runner up was a kick ass name but didn't have any significance what-so-ever: Ethan Gunner Helms

Congrats! I don't have babies, but I did get a puppy and those things have to go to the bathroom about just as often... and there is no device to catch their feces, so they just end up on the rug... So anyways, good luck with all the new responsibility too!

True, there aren't diapers for a puppy, however the myth of getting pee'd on when changing the diaper — totally TRUE. So far I've been pee'd on twice, and when I say pee'd on, I mean a whole fountain of pee from out of nowhere and only my hand to stop it.

#16 - looks like G'mama, but don't tell her! I'm really happy for you. Hugs to everyone. Puppies and babies - just get them on the same schedule. The pup will just think every time you get up it's for him, so he and the baby already think alike! so--jmhjr that's jim hi jer for short :)
